Subnautica 2 System Requirements — Minimum & Recommended PC Specs

Subnautica 2 PC requirements: minimum GTX 1660 + 12GB RAM (1080p/30fps), recommended RTX 3070 + 16GB (1440p/60fps). Plus Ultra/Ultra++ tiers, storage & DX12.

Can your PC run it?

In short: a GTX 1660 (6GB) with 12GB of RAM runs Subnautica 2 at 1080p / Low / 30 FPS, and for a comfortable 1440p / 60 FPS you're aiming at an RTX 3070 + 16GB RAM. Every tier needs DirectX 12 and 50GB of storage. For a 2026 release the bar is refreshingly affordable — older GPUs can still get you into the water.

💡 Note: the game is currently Windows PC only (64-bit) — there's no official macOS / Linux build, though it runs on Steam Deck via Proton. See the roadmap & platforms.

Higher tiers (Ultra / Ultra++)

The developers list four tiers in total — two enthusiast tiers sit above Minimum and Recommended:

TierTargetGPU / RAM
Ultra1440p / High / 60 FPSRTX 4070 / RX 6900 XT (12GB) + 32GB RAM
Ultra++4K / High / 60 FPSRTX 5070 Ti / RX 7900 XTX (16GB) + 32GB RAM

In other words, 4K at 60 FPS asks for a current flagship GPU, while the vast majority of players will run 1440p smoothly on the Recommended (RTX 3070-class) tier.

Performance notes

A few things matter beyond the headline GPU. The big one is VRAM — the Minimum and Recommended tiers both assume 6–8GB, and pushing higher resolutions or texture settings leans on it hard, which is why the 4K Ultra++ tier jumps to 16GB cards. RAM climbs from 12GB to 32GB across the tiers, so 16GB is the comfortable middle ground for most players. Finally, while only 50GB of space is required, installing on an SSD noticeably shortens load times and streaming hitches — which matters in a game built around continuous open-water exploration.

If you're unsure where your PC lands, compare your GPU rather than your CPU to the nearest tier — like most of the genre, Subnautica 2 is GPU-bound at higher settings. A GTX 1660 / RX 5500 XT holds 30 FPS at 1080p Low; an RTX 3070 / RX 6700 XT is the sweet spot for 1440p/60; and only the newest flagships are needed for native 4K/60. Dropping a tier in resolution or texture quality is the simplest way to claw back frames on older hardware.
