The Early Access Roadmap
The studio has split future updates into three phases:
| Phase | Focus | Date |
|---|---|---|
| EA 1.1 | A brand-new region (the Collector Leviathan's home, with new creatures & resources), the returning Prawn Suit mech, in-base sprinting, plus Biomods/wreck/vehicle-docking polish | TBD (within weeks) |
| EA 1.2 | A co-op-focused update | TBD |
| Larger content expansion | A bigger drop further out: new biomes, creatures, resources, tools, vehicles and story | TBD |
The developers have said that after the frequent, rapid hotfixes of the launch window, the team is pivoting to focus on EA 1.1. Watch the patch notes for the latest.
When Is the Full (1.0) Release?
There's no confirmed release date. Unknown Worlds has said Early Access is expected to run for roughly two years (internally closer to two-to-three) before a 1.0 release, and that it won't tie milestones to a fixed calendar — the team would rather ship when content is ready than commit to a date.
Is It Coming to PS5?
Not for now. A PlayStation 5 version is not part of the Early Access plan and hasn't been announced. The current platforms are Steam, Epic, Xbox and PC Game Pass.
Does It Have Crossplay?
Yes. Subnautica 2 supports up to 4-player crossplay co-op, so Steam, Epic and Xbox players can play together. See the Multiplayer guide for setup.
What to Expect in Early Access
Beyond the named updates, the studio plans a steady stream of patches — from quick hotfixes to larger drops — throughout Early Access. The bigger expansions are set to add new biomes, creatures, resources, tools, vehicles and story, while smaller updates focus on balance and quality-of-life. Creature behavior in particular is being actively retuned based on player feedback, so the game you play today will keep evolving. If you want to follow along, the best sources are the in-game updates and our regularly synced patch notes.

Q: How often does it get updates?
A: Very frequently at launch (rapid hotfixes), now shifting toward larger, less frequent feature updates like EA 1.1. Track them on the patch notes page.
