How Fiber and Fibrous Pulp relate

Fibrous Pulp is the raw fibrous biomatter you cut from sea plants; Fiber is what you get after processing that pulp at a Fabricator. You won't find Fibrous Pulp lying on the ground — you have to cut it from specific plants. Fiber is the base material for First Aid Kits, Fiber Mesh and Fins, so it's worth stocking early. Because the plants sit in shallow water right around your starting area, Fiber is one of the first crafting chains you can finish — no depth, heat, or special tools beyond the multitool needed.

Where to cut Fibrous Pulp

Use the Survival Multitool to cut fiber-bearing plants. Each plant gives one Pulp per cut and can be harvested repeatedly. There's plenty right by your lifepod:

PlantLocation (from the lifepod)
Feather Kelp~29m SW at 27m deep (in the cave under the lifepod — the most reliable early source)
Whip GorgonDirectly beneath the lifepod, looks like thick red tufts of tentacle grass
Curtain Gorgon~31m SW at 15m deep
Cradle Shootroot~70m E at 15m deep
Macaron Sponge~250m NE at 30m deep (watch for hostile creatures)

Every plant regrows what you cut, so a single patch under the lifepod is effectively an unlimited early supply. Top up your Pulp at the start of most dives and you'll rarely run dry on First Aid Kits or Fins.

How to make Fiber

At the Fabricator, under the "Basic Materials" tab, turn 2 Fibrous Pulp → 1 Fiber. Make sure your Fabricator has power — a single Solar Panel is enough early on.

Uses

MaterialUsed for
FiberFiber Mesh, Basic & Enhanced First Aid Kits, Basic Fins, Medkit Fabricator, Single Bed
Fibrous PulpBiofuel Block, Alcohol, Water, Oily Salad, Threemoon Temaki and other food

So over-cutting Pulp is never wasted: you can process it into Fiber, or use it directly for food, water and base Biofuel.

That double life makes Fibrous Pulp one of the most forgiving early resources: in a pinch, the Pulp you'd have turned into Fiber can instead become drinking Water at the Fabricator — handy before you've set up a steady supply (the salt guide covers the other water route).

The biggest single Fiber sink is Fiber Mesh, which a lot of mid-game equipment and base parts call for, so the early habit of cutting Pulp on autopilot keeps paying off long after the First Aid Kit stage.

FAQ
