What is Creature Enamel?
Despite the name, Creature Enamel is a mineable deposit, not a drop you harvest from a creature. Its only use is crafting Enameled Glass — which in turn is a prerequisite for mid-game gear like the Bioscanner and the Tadpole Depth Module Mk.1. In other words, this is a trip you'll eventually need to make to push through the mid-game.
Where to find Creature Enamel
Location: the alien biome roughly 1,400m east of the lifepod — even further east than the hot zone. You reach it by passing through the trench where the Collector Leviathan patrols, into the Alien Ruins area.
How to spot it: Creature Enamel grows as white, bone-like sticks protruding from black lumps of rock — a cluster of pale spikes on a dark deposit, easy to recognise.
Best farm: about 200m beyond the Alien Ruins, where the deposits are denser.
⚠️ The route passes the Collector Leviathan's trench. Strongly bring a Tadpole — a vehicle makes survival far easier and carries your tools and loot.
How to harvest it
Creature Enamel can't be picked up by hand — you must break the deposit with a Sonic Resonator, so bring one before you set off. At the site, hit the white spikes on the black deposit with the Resonator, then collect the pieces it drops.
Because the run is long and passes a leviathan, harvest a full stack in one trip — you'll burn through several Enameled Glass across the Bioscanner, the Depth Module Mk.1 and the chassis upgrades. Enamel deposits also turn up around the Karakorum Metal Farms, so if you're already down there mining Conduit Crystal or other deep resources, top up your Enamel at the same time.
Crafting Enameled Glass
Once you harvest your first Creature Enamel, the Enameled Glass recipe unlocks automatically at the Fabricator:
| Material | Qty |
|---|---|
| Glass | × 1 |
| Creature Enamel | × 1 |
Combine them at the Fabricator. Glass is made from Salt + Quartz, so bring those too.
What Enameled Glass is used for
Enameled Glass feeds six blueprints — it's the key glass material for mid-game gear:
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Bioscanner | The key tool for unlocking Biomods and alien blueprints |
| Tadpole Depth Module Mk.1 | Raises the Tadpole's depth limit to 450m |
| Tadpole Haul Chassis | Increases the Tadpole's cargo capacity |
| Feedback Resonator | Advanced tool |
| Strike Armor | Protective gear |
| Time of Day Display | Base decoration / utility piece |
