Does Subnautica 2 have a console?
Unlike the first Subnautica, Subnautica 2 ships without a built-in developer console. Press the usual keys in the base game and nothing happens — there is no command box. The studio has said that official console commands (and FOV options) are planned for a future update, but until then the only way to use cheats is through community mods. That means console commands are unofficial: they can break after any game patch, so treat them as an experimental, single-player-only toy rather than a supported feature.
How to enable the console
You need two free mods from NexusMods: UE4SS (the script loader, mod ID 36) and Console Commands (mod ID 41). The process:
1. In Steam, right-click Subnautica 2 → Manage → Browse Local Files.
2. Go to \Subnautica2\Subnautica2\Binaries\Win64 and extract UE4SS there.
3. Drop the Console Commands mod files into \Subnautica2\Subnautica2\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods.
4. Launch the game and press F2 to open the console.
⚠️ Back up your save first. Modding can corrupt saves, and game updates may break the loader until the mod authors patch it.
Full console command list
Type the commands exactly as written — the console only accepts these English keywords, whatever your game language is set to.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
god | No damage; no need for food, water, or oxygen |
invisible | Hostile creatures can't see you |
nocost | Craft and process without spending resources |
unlock all | Unlock all recipes, blueprints, and journal entries |
item [name] [amount] | Spawn any item, e.g. item lithium 5; amount is optional (defaults to 1) |
oxygen | Freezes oxygen so it won't drop |
kill | Kills the player and respawns instantly |
day / night | Set the time to day / night |
daynight # | Set a specific time of day |
FOV # | Change field of view, e.g. FOV 100 |
togglehud | Hide the HUD (⚠ no toggle-back yet) |
Beyond these, the mod also exposes commands to toggle starvation, suffocation, and dehydration individually, and to add inventory slots.
Spawning items
The item command is the workhorse. Type item, then the item's internal name, then an optional amount — for example item lithium 5 drops five Lithium into your inventory, while leaving the amount off gives you one. Names use the game's internal identifiers, so if a spawn fails, check the spelling against the item's data page.
Commands that don't work yet
Several commands exist inside the game's code but are disabled even with the mods installed. As of this update these include goto, fastswim, noclip, fly, and warp — teleport- and movement-style cheats. The mod authors are gradually enabling more, so the working list grows over time.
Should you use them?
Cheats are great for testing base layouts, taking screenshots, or recovering from a soft-lock, but they remove the survival pressure that makes Subnautica 2 tense. If you just want a faster route to materials or blueprints, our progression and resource guides cover the quickest legitimate in-game paths. And remember: because this is mod-based, a new Early Access hotfix can disable everything until the mods catch up — keep an eye on the patch notes.
