Subnautica 2 Heat Adaptation Location & Angel Comb
Subnautica 2 heat adaptation location guide: find Angel Comb, unlock Heat Tolerance, clear Bloom Cankers, use Sonic/Feedback Resonator, and reach Alien Ruins.

What Is an Angel Comb?
Angel Combs are large, stationary lifeforms in Subnautica 2 — they resemble purple, tree-like jellyfish. Interacting with one permanently alters your DNA, granting an Adaptation: a core progression mechanic that lets you survive environments and access areas otherwise off-limits.
There are 4 Angel Combs in the Early Access build, with more planned for the full release. Some are infected by Bloom Cankers — a parasitic growth you must clear before the Comb becomes usable.
All Angel Comb Locations
1. Prologue Habitat Immediately Available
Grants: Pressure Tolerance Adaptation
Inside the hab during the opening sequence, before you escape to the Lifepod. Interact with the pink bulb to permanently gain pressure tolerance. This is the game's tutorial introduction to the Adaptation system — don't skip it.
2. ~180m North-Northeast of Lifepod Immediately Available
Grants: Digestion Adaptation
Swim approximately 180m north-northeast from your Lifepod to find an uninfected Angel Comb. Digestion lets you safely consume local flora and fauna for nutrition, removing the risk of food poisoning from native organisms.
3. Heat Adaptation Location: ~200m / 300° Northwest of Lifepod Requires Sonic Resonator
Grants: Heat Tolerance Adaptation (often searched as the Heat Adaptation)
This Angel Comb is infected with Bloom Cankers. Craft the Sonic Resonator, locate the 4 glowing infection spores on the roots, and blast each one to clear the infection. Heat Tolerance — the heat adaptation — lets you survive extreme temperature zones, opening access to Gold and Sulfur deposits in hydrothermal areas.
4. ~1,800m East of Lifepod (Past the Alien Base) Requires Feedback Resonator
Grants: Axum Vision Adaptation
The furthest Angel Comb, requiring you to travel through the Alien Base region. Its Bloom Cankers have a shield that causes spores to retract when approached — the standard Sonic Resonator won't work. Craft the upgraded Feedback Resonator to break the shield and clear the infection. Axum Vision lets you perceive and interact with alien (Axum) technology.
Adaptations Overview
| Adaptation | Effect | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure Tolerance | Survive greater water pressure | Prologue, free |
| Digestion | Safely eat local organisms | No infection, direct interaction |
| Heat Tolerance | Enter hydrothermal/high-temp zones | Sonic Resonator to clear infection |
| Axum Vision | Perceive and use alien technology | Feedback Resonator to break shield |
How to Cure Bloom Canker Infections
Standard Infection (Sonic Resonator)
- Craft the Sonic Resonator (recipe and the Feedback Resonator upgrade here)
- Approach the infected Angel Comb
- Locate the 4 glowing infection spores on the roots
- Target each spore with the resonator and fire until destroyed
- Once all spores are cleared, interact with the pink bulb to gain the Adaptation
Shielded Infection (Feedback Resonator)
- Spores retract into a shield when you approach — the Sonic Resonator has no effect
- Craft the upgraded Feedback Resonator
- Break the shield first, then clear spores as normal
💡 Recommended order: Prologue (Pressure Tolerance) → 180m NNE (Digestion) → progress main story to unlock Sonic Resonator → NW (Heat Tolerance) → upgrade to Feedback Resonator → 1,800m East (Axum Vision).
FAQ
Q: Where is the Subnautica 2 heat adaptation location?
A: The Heat Tolerance / Heat Adaptation Angel Comb is northwest of the Lifepod, roughly 200m away at about 300° on the compass. Bring the Sonic Resonator and clear the Bloom Cankers before interacting with the bulb.
Q: Is Heat Adaptation the same as Heat Tolerance?
A: Yes. Players often search for "heat adaptation," while the in-game adaptation is usually referred to as Heat Tolerance.
Q: Do I need the Feedback Resonator for Heat Adaptation?
A: No. The first infected Angel Comb uses the Sonic Resonator. The Feedback Resonator matters later for the shielded Bloom Cankers around the Alien Ruins / Axum Vision Angel Comb.
