Tallshroom. A mysterious, chitinous life form with no clear terrestrial analog. Composed entirely of threadlike chitin-like biopolymer structures. Features gill-like flanks for oxygen collection, reproductive fruiting bodies, and a central sealed chamber. Actively drills into rock using specialized fibers to access hydrothermal vents below, using bacterial conversion of vent minerals for energy. If pressure becomes excessive, the drum-like top ruptures to release overflow. Shares body plan elements with the False Fission Drum (Polymephycite tympanum) despite millions of years of separation — possibly convergent evolution, mimicry, or viral gene transfer.
