Overview

Sitaroid gemini — twin ray that resembles a sitar. A dark-sea electropredator driven towards the surface by ecological disruption. Sitar rays probably diverged from mangos less than 25 million years ago; they have a flat head with hard shield remnants and a jaw positioned beneath the body. Adapted to lightless deep ocean: true eyes are buried under a layer of jelly, while the central eye is a hyperdeveloped parietal eye that tracks light and heat. Like the foureye, always born in pairs — when mature, twins split to find mates, but communicate electrically and clasp mouthparts to exchange food. Channels and electropaque fins generate electric current to stun prey; when connected as a pair, their hunting shock is far more powerful. Assessment: a serious threat to divers and electrically powered vehicles and bases.
