Toxic Sponge. A dangerous semi-predatory sponge that acts as the central node in a necrobiome. Hosts a potent bacterial symbiote producing concentrated antibiotics that cause skin burns and nerve damage — evolved from bacteria competing internally for dominance within the sponge. When contacted, contracts sharply and expels a cloud of antibiotic toxin, killing microorganisms and causing larger creatures to convulse and perish nearby; the sponge feeds on these remains. Its genome contains a fragment of an animal genome (likely a crustacean), suggesting hybrid biological origins. Assessment: keep medical supplies on hand; avoid all direct contact.
