Overview

Ostrakonskelos glossaklept — the hard-legged tongue thief. A parasitic crab or louse that dwells in the host's mouth, causing intense and unremitting hunger. It mimics prey items to be swallowed, then uses a numbing agent to anchor to the host's tongue, blocking satiety signals so the host feeds constantly — benefiting both host and parasite in a semi-cooperative hunt. Eggs are anchored in the host's mouth; larvae pass through the host's digestive tract. The numbing agent may have cultural uses as an anesthetic, but experimentation is strongly discouraged. Expel the parasite immediately if infected; watch for juvenile infestations.

Survival

Avoid ingesting unknown organisms. If a host creature is acting erratically hungry, it may be infected — keep your distance.
