Overview

Quadrate. A carnivorous relative of the Geordie with four piercing teeth instead of a rasping jaw. Feeds parasitically by burrowing into living flesh to consume blood and serous fluid. Produces an anticoagulant enzyme preventing blood clotting — similar to vampire bat draculin. This enzyme also appears in water slugs, suggesting possible viral transmission. Assessment: may cause serious or fatal dehydration if it remains attached. Apply light or heat to encourage voluntary detachment. The high Quadrate burden on local ecosystems suggests either extinction of a species that previously controlled their numbers, or Geordies adapting into this parasitic form under starvation pressure.
