Overview
Houndgar (tentatively Teuthis courser). A squid that dazzles prey for Marrowbreach ambush. Shares a basic body plan with Earth squid — beaked head, eight arms, long soft body, a pair of fins — but with two spiracles facilitating water passage through internal gills. Eight arms are joined by four membranes displaying chromatophore arrays that create motion-based concealment patterns. Hunts cooperatively with Marrowbreach: the houndgar flushes prey from hiding, then distracts and marks them with a display for the Marrowbreach's poor vision. All ingested material passes through the creature's brain center. Assessment: possibly intelligent, perhaps trainable. Displays may signal an imminent Marrowbreach attack.
