Donut, No Worms. A donut-shaped raion that exists in two distinct states. In its normal form, it hosts a symbiotic population of predatory worms, similar to how Earth corals host zooxanthellae. This specimen has discharged or killed its worm population — or the worms have abandoned the host. The duration it can survive without its primary food supply is unclear. Scientists draw a parallel to terrestrial coral bleaching: corals last only days to weeks after their symbiotes leave. Whether this is a defensive response, reproductive strategy, or stress signal remains unknown.
