Overview

Exile cerathecan — the horn-cupped exile. A carnivore and deposit feeder with no clear Earth analog except the tiny ostracod (seed shrimp), which on Proteus has grown huge. A crustacean hidden in an upright double-valved shell, similar to an oyster, using a central eye and periscopic ears to navigate. Grazes the seafloor, plucking detritus and prey from hiding places. Interior shell is lined with a paralytic neurotoxin for protection — the creature must secrete an antidote to open its own shell. Genetically, it has no shell-producing genes: it is simply a large shrimp. The shell contains only partial genetic material without independent life-support organs.

Survival

Keep terrain between you and it. Avoid prolonged exposure in open water.
