Overview

Amphora sponge (Symphon amphora). Unlike typical aquatic sponges, this organism pumps moist air rather than water through its pores. Absorbs water and CO₂ from the atmosphere through absorbent surfaces protected by a waxy coating. Its characteristic blue glow comes from bioluminescence powered by radioactive minerals in its vanes; radiation splits water into hydrogen and oxygen, which accumulate in cave ceilings as knallgas — a breathable but highly flammable mixture. Symbiotic bacteria consume these gases to generate energy. Assessment: air pockets are breathable, but avoid flares or electrical devices nearby.
